Acomb Alive traders association was formed in 2012, by local businesswoman Sue Hunter and Councillor Andrew Waller. Business owners joined Acomb Alive, with a combined aim to regenerate Acomb, and boost trade in the area.
Since 2012 the area has gone from strength to strength with Acomb Alive holding events to attract people to the area. These include indoor fairs, markets, fun days, table top sales, and the annual pancake race. Acomb Alive has also created a seasonal festive vibe in the area, with installation of brackets to hold Christmas Trees, and in more recent years the installation of a large lit Christmas Tree outside the Gateway Centre.
This made the area more appealing and resulted in a boost in visitors from outside the area.
Acomb Alive raise funds independently, by running tombola’s, holding social events, such as pig racing and participating in bag packing at the local Morrisons Store. The funds raised all go towards regeneration in the area.
