DAME JUDI DENCH GETS BEHIND CAMPAIGN

TO ‘LIGHT UP ACOMB THIS CHRISTMAS’

York born Oscar winner Dame Judi Dench has lent her voice to a campaign to

fundraise for Christmas lights for Acomb village.

Sending a personal message to the Acomb Alive Traders’ Association Dame

Judi said:

“I am delighted to know that the community spirit is alive and well in Acomb, and I wish you great success with your Christmas lighting campaign.”

Acomb Alive Chairperson Councillor Sue Hunter, who is leading the Spacehive crowdfunding appeal, said:

“We are thrilled with Dame Judi’s kind words of support to boost our cause, we are as proud of her as she is of our community spirit!”

 Acomb is home to a variety of shops, businesses, cafés and food outlets.

Acomb Alive traders association was formed in 2012, by local businesswoman

Sue Hunter and Councillor Andrew Waller.

Business owners joined Acomb Alive, with a combined aim to regenerate Acomb, and boost trade in the area.

Acomb is a suburb to the west side of the City of York, approximately 3 miles from the City Centre.

Acomb Alive hold meetings monthly, all welcome – dates will be published on our social media pages.

Acomb Alive raise funds independently, by running tombola’s, holding social events, such as pig racing and participating in bag packing at the local Morrisons Store.

The funds raised all go towards regeneration in the area.

More recently, Acomb Alive has provided new planters in the Acomb shops area, with more to be added in the summer of 2016. These were funded by Acomb Alive and they were planted up by volunteers from Acomb Alive and from the community.
